TAP Network CEO Update March 2022

Tech + People Network Update
April 2022

Hello everyone,

Have you heard the exciting news? 2022 marks our 30th anniversary as an association! Our community began in 1992 when a handful of senior HR practitioners at 8 of BC’s rapidly growing tech companies saw value in coming together to share data and compare best practices related to people and culture. Today our community has grown to over 700 practitioners at 225+ Canadian tech companies. Stay tuned for some fun anniversary celebrations throughout the year!

As part of a recent strategic planning process, TAP Network’s board of directors refined and clarified our evolving vision, mission and values statements to reflect our growing community. I’m pleased to share these guiding statements for our association:

Our Mission is…

To connect, support and champion the needs of people and culture professionals driving the growth and success of Canada's tech sector.

Our Vision is...

To be a catalyst for collaboration and inclusivity in Canada's tech sector.

Our values are:

COMMUNITY – We connect tech companies through inclusive collaboration and peer learning. We leverage the collective power of our diverse network to bring benefit to our members.

IMPACT – We deliver valuable industry insights and resources for tech companies to make informed business decisions.

LEADERSHIP – We are a proud voice of People and Culture professionals working in Canada’s tech sector and can be trusted to accurately represent the challenges, successes and future needs of our industry.

Our strategic priorities for the next three years continue to be focused on providing value to our member companies through peer-to-peer connections, mentoring, tech sector data, thought leadership, programs, tools and resources.

TAP Network’s 2022-2024 Strategic Priorities are:

  • Provide significant value to our members

  • Deliver thought leadership, products, services, resources and compensation and total rewards data to strengthen our industry
  • Influence DE&I in Canada’s tech sector

  • Connect People and Culture leaders across Canada’s tech sector to collaborate and share information

  • Host inclusive events and reflect the diversity of our communities within our teams and committees

We are focusing on:

  1. Providing members with thought leadership, data and collaboration channels on foundational practice areas and emerging critical trends
  2. Enhancing and expanding our Tech Salary Survey
  3. Strengthening both diversity and inclusion within our association
  4. Sustaining our DE&I tools, training and resources
  5. Expanding membership within Canada, and
  6. Updating internal structures and platforms to support our continued growth

Evolving to a national community enables TAP Network to provide you with tech sector insights, connections and resources across Canada. Our Tech Salary Survey and our Diversity in Tech Dashboard Report will both provide national data starting this year. The data collection process will be kicking off in a few weeks’ time so please watch for those communications.

Let us know if there are specific Canadian tech companies that you’d like to have in our community. You can email me at with suggestions or introductions.

Staying Connected

I hope you’ve had a chance to check out the new and improved topic-based channels in our Slack workspace. As our community is built on knowledge exchange, we encourage you to not just ask questions but to answer questions and share insights, resources and ideas.

Thank you to everyone who completed our recent Benefits Survey. We expect to have the results and analysis ready for you in May. I’m looking forward to exploring the detailed results; I think we’ll see some shifts in tech sector benefit offerings. I’m also looking forward to connecting in-person with many of you at our Tech Talent North conferences – June 8th in Vancouver and October 18th in Toronto. It’s been way too long!

As always, reach out if you have questions, concerns or ideas to help strengthen our community. I can be reached at

All the best,
